Geological database administrator

  • Location: Multi-sites in Burkina Faso
  • Schedule: Rotation job 35/28 - 12 hours
  • Under the supervision of the Exploration Manager
  • Open-ended contract

 

You are a service-oriented professional capable of managing the integrity, security and archiving of exploration databases for cross-functional projects across multiple locations. With your analytical and problem solving skills, you serve as a key MS-SQL expert in day-to-day operations within a highly cooperative environment. You collaborate with the IT department by managing changes to the SQL environment and troubleshooting service issues. You effectively share your understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and industry best practices.

 

Main challenges and responsibilities

  • Ensure that in each exploration field site, databases are reliable, up-to-date and useful, by setting and enforcing standards and control
  • Ensure the stability and reliability of data access and data quality across the organization via ongoing database support and maintenance
  • Provide end-user (field and corporate) necessary support (reports, forms, queries, data extraction) and training for the effective and efficient use of Micromine and Geobank software
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
  • Contribute to changes in the SQL environment
  • Supervise the geomatician on-site team

 

Your profile and skills

  • University degree in geology or related field or college diploma or university degree in the field of computer science with 7+ years equivalent work experience as a MS SQL Server DBA, preferably in the mining/exploration industry
  • Excellent understanding of, and experience with relational database environments, theories, principles, and industry best practices
  • Solid experience with database administration, new database installations, database monitoring performance tuning, backups and recovery, database monitoring, and server and database security
  • Experience in geology, geological data entry, QAQC and data model concepts (data mining, data analyst).
  • Working technical experience with Micromine and Geobank software.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills mainly in French.

 

To make a difference

  • MCSA: SQL Server; MCITP: Database administrator; MCTS: Business Intelligence certification (assets).
  • CompTIA Security+ or other security certifications (assets).
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
