Work schedule: rotations 36/27 and 29/27 alternately

Possibility of relocation to Burkina Faso

Job summary

 

 

  • Reporting to the Vice-President of Operations, the General Manager directs the mining and control, planning and mine production.The General Manager adheres to the following missions: creating an exemplary partner with Burkina Faso in the development of natural resources and maximizing shareholder value while respecting SEMAFO’s vision and values.

Your main challenges and responsibilities

  • Structure and control the work in an efficient manner; production goals include maintenance, administration and cost controls while respecting health, safety and environment.
  • Develop and support individual and team goals. Manage the performance and results of the team of professionals and contractors – giving feedback, support and the necessary tools to do their jobs.
  • Identify the major challenges of the project, supporting team members in logical diagnostic evaluation which help the team achieve construction and production goals while mitigating risks.
  • Put into place the necessary measures for continuous improvement. Work at implementing a culture of efficiency and optimization through the exchange of ideas and information.Support the process and contribute to the team’s progress which may include conflict resolution and negotiations.
  • Promote the professional development and advancement of employees in order to create a motivational work environment.Develop team members and show appreciation while promoting a teamwork culture.
  • Promote a harmonious work environment through excellent communication and feedback skills
  • Establish and maintain excellent community relations, working closely with the National Director to respect local customs and traditions.
  • Coordinate the overall project and operations budget, respecting deadlines and specific management requests for information.
  • Support the company’s goals and values at the mine site ensuring that the profitability of the mine will benefit the social program and annual giving.

Your profile and skills

  • University degree in mine engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years open pit mining experience with some exposure to underground mining
  • Proven management abilities in a senior supervisory role in the mining industry including overseas expatriate work experience
  • Proven success in the profitability and organizational management of a mine site
  • French and English language skills (functional in both)
