  • We were the first-ever gold mining company in Niger in 2004.
  • Originator of the mining sector, SEMAFO was the first industrial gold company in Burkina Faso in 1996.

Demonstrating Respect and Integrity

  • SEMAFO was the first gold mining company in West Africa to create a non-profit, charitable foundation to spearhead its community initiatives.
  • We are the sole gold mining company in West Africa to pledge up to 2% of its net profits to support its community initiatives.

Demonstrating Excellence and Team-Work

  • In September 2015, Foundation SEMAFO received an award from Forum Africa for excellence in its work in supporting women's entrepreneurship (through training, mentoring or financing) in Africa.
  • We were awarded the grand prix for best overall investor relations (IR) by a small-cap company (Grand prix for best overall investor relations – small-cap under $1 BN market cap) at the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2014. This independent accolade from the Canadian investment community placed SEMAFO in the Top 50 Canadian IR rankings for the first time.
  • We were awarded two prizes for excellence in the 2012 MarCom Awards, an international awards competition for marketing and communication professionals. In the category Video/Film/Informational, SEMAFO’s video entitled “The Shea Processing Facility in Burkina Faso” won a Platinum Award, the organization’s top honor; and the video called “We are SEMAFO” received an honorable mention.
  • SEMAFO was named as one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate CulturesTM for 2011 in the Quebec & Atlantic Canada region. This annual program was created in 2005 by Waterstone Human Capital and recognizes the country’s top organizations with cultures that both enhance performance as well as sustain competitive advantages. A total of 440 eligible organizations were nominated for the Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate CulturesTM program.
